Tyan Thunder i7500 (S2720) cont'd Due to popular demand, I have added a few new benchmarks this time around. Multimedia encoding is encouraging a nice growth spurt in the dual processor market, so to compensate, I have a few nifty new tests that focus on just that type of application. I'll have more on that as we go, but let's start things off with the old standards. SiSoft Sandra 2002 Standard I surfed on over to SiSoft's page and grabbed the latest version of Sandra Standard 2002 (2002.1.8.59) so you can all get the same tests and compare your numbers to mine. As always, these numbers are purely synthetic, so take them for what they're worth.
Not much here that we didn't already know. In anything FPU intensive, the Athlons win. Integer? Xeon. The Xeons have a really strong showing if the application is optimized for SSE2, as show by the CPU-FPU(SSE2) numbers.
What more is there to say? Intel said that the Xeon/P4 is -the- multimedia processor. According to Sandra, they were right ;-)
The memory numbers here don't look that impressive for the Xeon, but remember the memory is running at PC1600 speed, while the Athlons have the advantage with PC2100 speeds. Even still, the PC1600 is chugging right along, a true testament to the dual channel memory controller of the E7500. |
