Okay okay... So I couldn't go the whole review without any explanation of the new architecture and specifications of the board, but I will keep it very short (just this page), so bear with me. Here is the quick low-down on the board, just to give you an idea of what you're getting into:

And a simple diagram of how the new architecture/board works, taken from the AMD PR kit (Mmmm... Independent busses!):

See. That was painless don't you think? If you bothered to actually read all that stuff up there, you noticed some pretty interesting things. Things like dual 3Com NICs, Adaptec U160, ATI video/AGP Pro, and all sorts of other cool stuff built-in to and/or supported by this board. Make no mistake, this is a serious piece of hardware aimed squarely at the server or uberhigh-end workstation.

There are plenty of goodies on the board, but what do you get in the box? Have no fear, Tyan will hook you up:

  • Thunder K7 motherboard (Of course, duh!)
  • 34-pin floppy cable (does anyone still use these?)
  • UltraDMA-100/66/33 IDE cable (IDE?!? We want SCSI!)
  • 68-pin U160 LVD SCSI cable (Ahhh... There it is :-)
  • 9-pin serial cable
  • I/O shield (You need it for all the extra stuff on the board)
  • User's manual
  • Driver CD
  • Adaptec SCSI driver disk

Get on with the good stuff already! >>
