I added this particular benchmark to the roster for my recent Westmere-EP review and even though neither system being evaluated today supprt any encryption instructions, I decided to include it here for future reference.

That is really not too shabby considering the Nehalem-EX machine's clock speed and core deficit.

CINEBENCH r11.5 x64

CINEBENCH is the free benchmarking tool for Windows and Mac OS based on the powerful 3D software CINEMA 4D. The tool is set to deliver accurate benchmarks by testing not only a computer's raw processing speed but also all other areas that affect system performance such as OpenGL, multithreading, multiprocessors and Intel's new HT Technology.

CINEBENCH includes render tasks that test the performance of up to 16 multiprocessors on the same computer as well as software-only shading tests and OpenGL shading tests on huge numbers of animated polygons that will push any computer to its limits.

Nehalem-EX CINEBENCH

The Opteron box edged out the Xeon box with sheer brute force in the CINEBENCH test. Clock speed and floating point prowess rule the rendering world, but again, Nehalem-EX posts some pretty darned good numbers while only occupying half the number of sockets.

Euler3d CFD Bench v2.2

The benchmark testcase is the AGARD 445.6 aeroelastic test wing. The wing uses a NACA 65A004 airfoil section and has a panel aspect ratio of 1.65, taper ratio of 0.66, and a quarter-chord sweep angle of 45 deg. This AGARD wing was tested at the NASA Langley Research Center in the 16-foot Transonic Dynamics Tunnel and is a standard aeroelastic test case used for validation of unsteady, compressible CFD codes.

The CFD grid contains 1.23 million tetrahedral elements and 223 thousand nodes . . . . The benchmark executable advances the Mach 0.50 AGARD flow solution. A benchmark score is reported as a CFD cycle frequency in Hertz.

Nehalem-EX Euler3d

Maybe it's time to contact the developer and see if there is an updated version of this test. This is the first time I've ever run Euler3d on any sort of Opteron system, and I am floored by how poorly they performed in this test. Nehalem-EX, while not being the fastest machine I've tested, puts in a respectable showing.

FlamMap FSPRO Bench

FlamMap is a fire behavior mapping and analysis program that computes potential fire behavior characteristics (spread rate, flame length, fireline intensity, etc.) over an entire FARSITE landscape for constant weather and fuel moisture conditions.

The software models forest fire. Basically, the program calculates fire behavior for multiple weather scenarios based on historic weather observations, then runs a Monte Carlo simulation of an existing fire to get burn probabilities across a landscape.

Nehalem-EX FSPRO

I know the developers of FlamMap/FSPRO will be tickled to see these numbers. This is a real world application, and the people who use it are always looking for more power. By looking at the X7560 numbers with two sockets filled, I can only imagine how they would look with all four sockets occupied.
