I saw a link to this PR from Cirrus Logic while I was at work today (I can't remember where I saw it first). Anyway... It details the specs for the world's fastest CDRW chip. Burns at 16x and reads at 48x! Oh man, that is fast! I'm still limping along at 2x2x16 :-/ Here's the scoop:
FREMONT, Calif. -- April 3, 2000- Affirming once again its position as the speed leader in the optical storage market, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) today introduced the industry’s fastest CD-ReWritable (CD-RW) chip, delivering 16x write and 48x read speeds. The new encoder/decoder (CR3480) can write twice as fast and read 50% faster than CD-RW chips currently available from other manufacturers. A major manufacturer of CD-RW drives has already selected Cirrus Logic’s new chip because of its speed advantage and ease of use.
