Dell Has Major Screwup!!

So, last night, my good buddy Nick at Microsoft was cruising Dell's page, and noticed something funky: They were selling computers at negative prices. Well, Nick's a smart guy. He promptly ordered around $100k of equipment, and so did a lot of other people he told. He ordered me a top of the line Precision Workstation, and a 850 MHz laptop with 512MB of RAM.

Needless to say, Dell canceled all of the orders today, despite sending out confirmation e-mails to everyone. Nick is talking to an attorney in Texas, and so are some other people. How does everyone feel about this? I think that vendors have an obligation to their customers, even if the website screws up. Especially Dell, since they pride themselves on "Buy Direct" and their website. On the other hand, I can see why they don't want to lose millions of dollars because of a screwup. But, I would think they would have insurance to cover this.

Nick will be forwarding me his confirmation e-mails later today, and I'll make them available to anyone who wants to see them.

You could always drop Dell a line and tell them to give us our free stuff. :) If we got it all, I bet Nick ordered enough to give away another Precision Workstation. :)
