HP Server Taps AMD`s `Barcelona`

Two companies known for working together on Server products is HP and Advanced Micro Devices. Hewlett Packard announced that it will be supporting AMD's Quad-Core processor codenamed: Barcelona. Which was released 3Q '07 in small supply to vendors. Now that new revisions and quantities have been shipping, HP will be supporting the product in their Proliant DL785 G5 series platform. The platform supports 8 sockets, Clock frequencies upto 2.2Ghz, 64 DIMM slots for upto 256GB of DDR2 RAM as well as 11 PCI-e slots. A server of this caliber is aimed at the Enterprise market.

With Intel releasing a six shooter later in the second half of the year, the quad core festival may be short lived for the Proliant by HP.
