Microsoft Releases DoS Patch
Posted on: 05/23/2000 02:14 AM

Just noticed this over at News.com. Microsoft released a security patch today that hopefully will solve some Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack problems on all Windows platforms. You got it, this affect Win95, Win98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000.
"A malicious user could send a continuous stream of IP (internet protocol) fragments with particular type of malinformation," said Scott Culp, a program manager in Microsoft's Security group. "Your machine could spend all its time trying to reassemble them. It doesn't crash, just slows down quite a bit."
Get patched, DoS is lame, but its become something not only the network admin has to worry about, but also the home user. There are lots of retards out there with access to PC's and internet connections. You can check out the article here. The patch can be found here.
