Weekend topic: Should you pay twice as much for a Mac?

Joe Wilcox of eWeek.com and Apple-Watch.com has a blog style article posted about; Should you pay twice as much for a Mac?
I don't want to dwell on it too much as I do work for a competing company. However, I can see where his blog is going in terms of paying twice as much. Earlier this week I was shopping for some components to re-salvage a PC from a local client. In doing so, the client didn't have much to spend, but I thought I would make some suggestions on a retail branded PC. I went to a few store websites and found an HP a6554f. Which features the following;

Tower based Desktop chassis
PCI-e x16 slot
5GB of DDR2 memory
750GB HD
DVD+RW
Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz.
Vista HP 64bit SP1

All for $699 AC/AR.

So, How do I explain or justify to a client that the Mac is worth twice as much? Very interesting blog by Joe Wilcox.
