AMD: Short on chips?
Posted by: Hooz on: 11/06/2006 07:53 PM [ Print | 2 comment(s) ]
With all of the recent speculation on AMD's supply issues, they have finally come out of the closet and admitted that they do indeed have supply issues!
All I know is that the Dimension C521 I ordered from Dell took THREE WEEKS to arrive, so I'm not entirely convinced that it is just the small OEMs with allocation issues.
|In a prepared statement for CRN, AMD acknowledged the shortage but declined to discuss its allocation guidelines or channel strategy. A spokesman attributed the problem to a strain on supply as overall demand increases from both system builders and top OEMs.|

Seems this is mainly affecting the newer desktop(AM2) chips for now. I wonder how long though before this starts affecting the workstation/server chips(Socket 940/Socket F) that most of us on this site would be more interested in.

At least the demand is there now to quickly soak up the old stock, ready for the arrival of the new 65nm parts to market.
