Reuters is reporting that the US Government has sued a New Hampshire man in an attempt at cracking down on Internet spyware!
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission on Thursday asked a federal court to shut down an operation that it said disables users' computers in an attempt to bully them into buying anti-spyware products. Internet users unwittingly download the software when they visit Web sites that contain certain banner ads, the FTC said. The rest of the story is available here.

I had something like that happen to me a few months ago. The company's name was Global-something, can't remember :/
Anyway, it was back when I was using IE and the install dialog came up a few times. I know I clicked "No" every time, but after that whenever I started up IE I got about 4 or 5 popups, it hijacked my homepage (had to go into registry to change it). I searched all drives for these files, deleted them, but still every time IE would open, it's like it would redownload these files! To get rid of it all you had to go to their website, fill out a form and then go through a wizard to delete it.
Hopefully this will give these idiots something to think about before they do stuff like that.
