I would have posted about this yesterday but they were getting Slashdotted, so here we are a day later. GIMP has hit version 2.0 and apparently it brings a lot of improvements to the table.
This release is a major event, marking the end of a three year development cycle by a group of volunteers and enthusiasts who have made this the most professional release of GIMP ever. The press release is here and the list of new features can be located here.

if i tried to rotate (90 degrees) an image file of say 80 megs it would hang and then crash out. This was on a much much older cvs build from months ago. I just went back to plain old 1.x then! I would love to try out v2 if thats good ! How good is it with manipulating multiple alpha layers??? Speed wise is it anywhere near photoshop? rgs i_wolf Hung like a donkey. Go like a horse! |

Hmm, try out a new build. I do not think one should compare it speed wise to photoshop just yet, but soon. alex I finally have SMP. Looking for the next Mrs. Right now (c) 2004. HEMI. |

I have been messing around with one of the windows binary versions. Has issues with fonts and was not happy with some IfsCompose stuff I was trying. No linux box for me now cause that machine crapped out and I have to send it back to dell. I doubt dell would be willing to or have the support people to test the hardware in linux (though is the video card, so fairly straight forward). I cannot wait to test out the linux version once I get my laptop penguined again. White trash Jesus freaks for Bush '04. Join us, YOU will be saved. |
