Akiba PC Hotline have done it again. They've now got a page up showing the Prestonia Xeons running on a Supermicro P4DCE and the BIOS plus OS recognising FOUR individual CPUs:
[Update: Hot off the newswire from Krobar:
In the system in demonstration as for the CPU although only two it is loaded physically, because Hyper-Threading technology becomes effective, one CPU is visible hypothetically in two, in order altogether system for the CPU of total four to be operational, is visible. The number of CPUS 4 as for being able to verify, in at the time of power source throwing the BIOS message which the motherboard indicates the system property and the like of the OS. In BIOS message " Main Processor: When the Intel Xeon (the tm) the processor 2.0GHz (the 124x16.0), 4 CPUS (S)" with it is indicated, with the OS indicates the task manager, four CPU status are indicated. Because it is recognized four CPUS at BIOS level, the fact that, really physically the CPU is only two, opening in the case, other than verifying with direct visual inspection, there is no method. You can find the original page here and the usual 'fishy' version can be translated from Babelfish by entering the page URL and selecting Japanese to English. Well, will we need W2K server in order to take advantage of them? It's going to be a pain if people can't use W2K Pro with 3DS Max and get to use the Hyper threading, isn't it.......?
[Update: Hot off the newswire from Krobar:
Hyperthreading for Foster!?Well, there's some interesting news for all.......]
I just updated my Thunder i860 and an option for Jackson Technology appears in the BIOS. If disabled the BIOS reports 1 CPU if enabled 2. I'm unsure if it works entirely, Windows 2K Pro always reports 2CPUs (Im running dual) regardless of the setting (I don't have Win2k Server). BIOS is 1.04, CPUs are dual 1.7GHz SL56H. I have no way of confirming if it works due to the OS. The BIOS setting does stick ie. it saves and keeps the value. Im gonna see if Sandra shows any differences.
