IBM takes potshots at OpenSolaris

In recent news, IBM has an opinion about their rival, Sun Microsystems. Less than a year ago, Sun decided to venture into the OpenSource market with OpenSolaris. Solaris being a Unix based Operating system and Open meaning public & developer contribution.
IBM doesn't seem to agree with Sun;
While the OpenSolaris community is small (~20), one has to wonder: How much interest is left in the Solaris community and market to continue this adventure?
On the good news portion, Sun has been picking up steam in the hardware market with their x86 hardware.

| SAN FRANCISCO--OpenSolaris isn't a true open-source project, but rather a "facade," because Sun Microsystems doesn't share control of it with outsiders, executives from rival IBM say. |

But it IS still more open source than AIX. Big Blue, you have been good to open source over the past few years (in some respects very good, in fact the IBM-linux-prodigy commercials still give me goose bumps)... and as such, it saddens me to have to say this... but STFU. Yes it has been a slow transition, especially for solaris. But sun has slowly but surely been open sourcing or keeping closed, but giving away for free every one of its software products. So how about this, stop blowing hot air, and show em how its done. |
