Intel angling to move dual core Xeon into 2005

Posted by: duke on: 07/20/2005 03:01 PM [ Print | 5 comment(s) ]

C|Net has a quick note that might be of interest to those of you interested in dual-core Xeon processors.
Intel isn't officially slated to put out a dual-core version of Paxville, the code-name for its first dual core Xeon chip for servers, until the first quarter of 2006. But on Tuesday, CEO Paul Otellini said the company will likely pull it into 2005. Such a move would clip a bit of the advantage AMD has achieved in this area. Although Intel beat its rival to market with a dual core desktop chip, AMD already has a dual core server chip out. Intel has a dual core Itanium, but there aren't many customers for that part.
You can read it for yourself at the Processors News blog.

Intel can do whatever they want. They continue to make bank every quarter. They can do no wrong it seems, minus the alledged antitrust stuff.
