Intel demos 65nm dual-core mobile CPU

According to this article at the Reg, Intel has demoed their "Yonah" 65nm, dual core CPU.
Intel has shown off its dual-core, 65nm 'Yonah' mobile processor, but don't expect it to ship until 2006, the chip giant said. That could be seen as a slippage of the processor's release schedule, but since recent roadmaps have the part down for a very late 2005 introduction, a slide into 2006 shouldn't come as any great surprise. Doubly so, since Yonah is expected to be fabbed using the next generation of process technology. If you'd like to read a little more about "Yonah", "Napa", "Golan" and "Callistoga" and when you can expect them... ![]() How, exactly, have they "shown off" the CPU? Where? What was it doing? Are there any benchmarks, or even specs? RMN ~~~ |

![]() heh I was wondering the same thing. If they demoed/showed it how the hell is it over a year away? I think this is mainly aimed at scarring amd. |

No spec, no benchmarks, but they show a wafer, a CPU and a computer running (doing something.. whatever) here: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=101302&p=IROL-eventDetails&EventId=912428 Otellini is doing all the product show-off. They also show a Smithfield (dual core Prescott) outperforming single core Prescott on some simultaneous video rendering stuff. By far Yonah and Montecito are the most exiting products form Intel in the "near" future. I'm guesstimating a 4 socket Montecito machine will outperform a 8 socket dual core Opteron machine on OLTP even if it has the Horus chipset. Not expecting many to believe it until q4 2005, but hey at least take notes. ![]() |
