Looking for questions

Posted by: Forge on: 05/05/2004 08:19 PM [ Print | 14 comment(s) ]

I'm looking into starting a regular column for the site, where you send in questions, and I do my level best to answer them, or at least find answers. I'm looking for general questions like 'What is Serial ATA and what can it do for me', not 'I have a Supermicro P6DGU and I want you to recommend new CPUs' (You'd want P3 1GHz, preferably the 100FSB ones, but that's irrelevant). If some recent tech has been giving you a brain lock, if you're just not getting how the interconnection on a Xeon compares to how Opterons get it done, now's your chance. Please fully fill out your card and drop it in the new hardware.questions@2cpu.com mailbox.

I think its a great idea. Is this going to take the form of a mailing list of sorts?

Phyz - That was the inspiration. I think I might have even used those exact words when pitching it to Jim, too.

i_wolf - Maybe, if it really catches on. In the short term, it's just a mailbox for hardware questions, and I'll pick good ones (ones that I would imagine a lot of people might ask) and answer those publically. I'd also try and answer all of them, but that can be a lot of work (I still have a lot of people to write thank you letters to who wrote in on that DCC post I made a while back, wasn't expecting that kind of volume.)

Alright, I have a good general question. One that applys to everyone that has ever been on this site, or will ever be on this site in the future.

Here it is....

Its a big one...

Wait for it...

What happens to all my damn socks? Every time I do a load of laundry I end up with at least one missing. And It always seems to be one of the ones that I only have one pair of.

http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?threadid=27364&highlight=socks

Thank you in advance for your answer.

I usually find those down at the foot of my bed under the sheets. Somehow I rub one sock off my feet while I'm sleeping and don't notice it there.

Oh no, the sock thread is a virus, and it's spreading!

I hope it doesn't mix with the razor blade conspiracy thread and the milkshake thread to form some horrible mutant thread that will roam the net, eating websites whole.

Death list: Vuke69 added.

I just might answer the sock question first, though. Least I can do.

As a non techy - just more intrested than your average use - I think this is an excelant idea.

My opening shot is about servers. All servers seem to have an abreviation like AAA or BBBB. What do all these server designations mean and what are the uses of each type and the differnces in the setups.

I know I could spend loads of time searching books and sites for this information but I would appreciate a simple and basic answer not a fully technical answer which I probibly will only understand about 20% of.

Thanx
