Quad Opteron Baby!

Sander just dropped me this link to all the cool hush-hush AMD info from this year's IDF. Among the videos available, there is a gem of a clip showing a quad Opteron running a 64bit SuSE Linux. Maybe there is something to the whole "best processor" thing. I guess we'll find out in September.

Yes but he does have a point. Making the standard P4 not dual-capable is just petty. There's no point to it except to force people to buy expensive processors. It's not like it's the Celeron for god's sake! |

So whats the price difference between a P4 and a Xeon, maybe 5%? It would be pointless to make the regular P4 dual capable. Hell, Xeons are less expensive than Athlon MPs now. The only thing that is more expensinve these days are motherboards, and honestly, you get what you pay for when it comes to a MB. Xeon MBs are just on a whole different level when it comes to features, and performance. Hopefully AMD dosent let the Hammer MB market stagnate like they did with the athlon MP. At least this time around there will be more than just AMD in the dual+ chipset game, so things should be much better. |
