The Dual-Everything System
Posted by: duke on: 07/25/2005 03:47 PM [ Print | 5 comment(s) ]
Extreme Tech has published an article about the creation of a "dual-everything" system.
On a recent teleconference, Jeremy came up with the idea of building a system that was dual-everything. His initial idea was a dual Opteron workstation. While that would surely be a killer professional workstation, I wanted something a little more mainstream. So they didn't go dual processor, but they did go dual-core! You can read it for yourself right here.

![]() That's hardly a dual-everything system. First off, it should be dual dual-core processors, and it needs another sound card (why you'd want two I don't know) and burner, a backup power supply in case that 850W behemoth fails, and of course two keyboards/mice/floppy drives/monitors (which weren't mentioned at all). Then you also have to toss on linux, so you're dual-booting. Throw all that in there and you can call it dual-everything. Actually, repeat all of the above in the same case but with a dual G5 mac instead and you'll really have a dual-everything machine! ![]() |

A friend of mine has a pretty slick setup. A triple headed pc, then two IBM stinkpads. On two of the three heads he has a full screen TS session to each of the two laptops. So he can control three PCs seemlessly with a single KB & Mouse. So what? You ask... Well he is big into online poker (thats how he makes his living, and a decent one at that), and some of the sites only allow one connection from a single PC. But to make any real money, you have to play at least half a dozen tables at once. So with his setup, he can still have up to three clients up for those places, because they will all be running on seperate computers. He still has to play at multiple sites at once, but it is alot quicker to get the deposit bonuses three tables at once than one. |
