Weekend Gaming: Part Deux!
Posted by: Jim on: 01/24/2003 07:11 PM [ Print | 29 comment(s) ]
Last weekend I decided to rally the troops around here a little bit and get some Quake II Deathmatch action going on. We had a fair turnout over the weekend and I know everyone had a lot of fun. This weekend the game will be Quake III Threewave CTF. MalHavoc and I have the server all primed and ready to roll. The address will be quake3.2cpu.com.
Dig out your Quake III cds and install the 1.32 Point Release and the very large Threewave CTF Mod.
We're going to start out hosting Quake III without Punkbuster running as several admins will doubtless be playing all the time. If we discover someone is cheating, that person will be dealt with harshly. Iptables is my friend.
I'll probably start up the server around 5:00PM EST so dig out your rocket launchers and let's have some fun. :-)
UPDATE: A few people from across the ocean complained that they were missing out on some game time since it was already evening over there. As such, the server is up. Enjoy.

Some early screenshots:
Hooz swimming for the Mega Health.
MalHavoc gliding up from a jump pad.
Hooz getting the kill and preparing to take the flag. Sorry for the low quality shots. I'm shackled to my laptop these days. It doesn't run Quake III very well. Heh. We have about 9 people on there right now at about 7:08PM. Get those Quake III cds out people! 2CPU.com - Because two are always better than one! Just wanted to thank Jim_ for firing up another weekend of fun gaming on 2cpu. Here are some of my highlights: Witnessing Yoda in disguise doing a Jedi levitation trick:
During an intermission I fired off a model rocket....
But positively my favorite moment - I witnessed DracoDan doing his R.Kelly "I believe I can Fly" impersonation: ![]() |

some pretty good matches there. we had one going for i think close to 40min or around there. before this i only played q3/osp ctf maps. these maps were sweet. thanks jim. i was messenger btw. ps. do you guys really play with all the details on? or do they automatically come on for a screenshot? i find all the 3d objects (guns, etc) lighting effects too much of a distraction. |

I'm in the same boat as you. I set them to 2D. Minimizing as much as i could in the game. What kind of graphics cards are you guys using? I notice Hooz and some of the other screen shots have some damn fine looking graphics. Must be Ati Radeons.... |FAQ's|Heatware-Remedy{WcS}|Dual760|Beerology| |

I play at 1024x768x32bit, HQ textures, trilinear filtering, etc. I turn off blood... That's it. The Quadro4 700XGL I was using in the dual 2.8ghz Xeon box was good for ~160fps at those settings, but I set my max framerate to 85 (so I stay around 70-80). I have no doubt that the card/machine could handle more, but my 15.1" LCDs have a native resolution of 1024x768, so there isn't much point in going any higher. I haven't even taken my Radeon 9700Pro out of the box yet 2CPU.com - Because two are always better than one! Are you folding?
