Weekend News!

Posted by: Jim on: 08/04/2001 10:13 PM [ Print | 8 comment(s) ]

Ah good day to you all. I hope you're all enjoying your weekend. The Heritage Festival is on the go in North Bay this weekend, so the city's population has seemingly doubled. My sister and brother-in-law are visiting this week so their timing couldn't be any better. I watched a little of the "Crash Test Dummies" concert last evening, it was decent. The Air Show and "Treble Charger" highlighted this afternoon. I'm hot, sun burnt and tired... so why not post some news!

- Intel changes their pricing plans? Mikey has the scoop. Those "Pentium III-S" processors might interest you folk...

- Looking to backup some data? How about a Pioneer DVR-A03?

- Dell yanks the Linux option from its desktop and notebook offerings.

- Arstechnica talks about Intellectual Property and the "Good Society".

- Cory pointed me to nice, aluminum case that a gentleman put together. S'nice.

- Windows XP is coming for you. Be careful, and remember all is fair in love and war.

That's all for now. I'm going to get something cold to drink.

I remember Treble Carger's pre-"American Psycho" days. They used to played in front of half sold out crowds at the university bar here. I always thought that they were a decent band.

Here are a couple of interesting reads regarding the beast known as XP:

I saw Treble Charger open for Talk Show(anybody remember them?) and the Foo Fighters a few years back. The only highlight of their set was the big-dumb-jock in front of me who pelted the guitar player with the Mento's he'd brought to pelt the Foo Fighters with. Had a couple good guitar shots, and one solid head shot. The drummer was talking to a roadie throughout their set. Needless to say we were unimpressed, but Foo Fighters rocked our asses off so that made up for it.

Heritage Festival=very loud jets flying over my house for three days =( ,other than that it's a good time. Thats a pretty nice case that guy made. Needs some paint or trim at the edges and something to cover the screws IMO, it would just look a bit smoother that way. Good job for sure.

Mostly Harmless

I should check if I still have the original Windows 1.0 TV commercial, Ballmer in a "nice" checkerboard jacket doing the Crazy TV Saleguys pitch of Windows. Great stuff.
