Wildcat VP870 Benchmarks...
Posted by: Jim on: 07/18/2002 08:29 PM [ Print | 5 comment(s) ]
Man, thursday is all about the video cards I guess. Amazon International dropped me a line stating they had posted some benchmarks of the ever-so-sexy 3D Labs Wildcat VP870. This is based on the recently announced P10 chipset. How does it perform? They compare the card with a Quadro4 750XGL on a uniprocessor Northwood box. I'd like to see some numbers on a 760MPX and i860-based machine, but that will have to wait I guess.
Check it out.
I've made some headway in the video-card scene lately and we're really making a valiant attempt at getting into the professional-level video card arena. Surprises await you.

those cheesy reviews kinda piss me off. they use 3dmark on a wildcat?? man... there was no mention of antialiasing quality, rastering accuracy, oor driver certification... the strongest points of using a wildcat. i think the 2cpu staff could trounce "reviews" like this quite easily and put crap reviews like this to shame. heres my favorite part: "so hopefully this will help you all draw your own conclusion about what to buy next! " reason #312456 why i still dont like people. |

I actually don't think this was intended as a review, just some initial benchmarks. Amazon International -sells- Video Editing / Render workstations so I wouldn't expect them to actually post reviews like you'd find here. You are right about the 3dmark runs, though. That's just silly considering the hardware. I'm working hard to get these types of products here, so we can throw them through the gauntlet the 2CPU.com way. I don't believe the VP was supposed to outrun the Wildcat III, since we can compare the posted results with other results over here from SPECopc. Once again we've saved civilization as we know it. And the good news is, they're not gonna prosecute! |

Jim, If you are going to start high end video reviews, (please) could you include benchmarks on more main stream cards as well? I find it hard to go to my boss saying I need .... when I can't find head to head benchmarks comparing a quadro to a geforce using the same benchmarks. Beside a lot of us don't have the personal money to drop on a first class card, but we'd like to know which consumer cards are best for professional applications. It would also be intereting to see how a professional OpenGL card does in games like quake. BORK! |
