Workstation Bliss: SuperMicro 370DLE Review @ 2CPU

Posted by: dadmin on: 01/29/2002 03:30 PM [ Print | 5 comment(s) ]

This review has been a long time coming, in fact, i had the board before the first Thunder K7s were shipping. Why the delay? Don't ask.

This board wasn't made to be popular, or sell a lot of units. It was made to work, plain and simple, and it does a fantastic job. This year we'll have at least three dual platforms in production, and while the P3 isn't the fastest, it's still a contender.

Dual Tualatins, the new P3TDLE version of this board, and FreeBSD... Makes me salivate thinking about it.

Any chance you can run some drive benchmarks, or has the board already returned home?

I'm still using the board, but with the exact same loadout that is in the review.

I don't have any faster drives than the 34GXPs available, and RAID didn't seem to want to work.

What were you interested in?

A couple Apple products and a bizarre ASUS S479 box.

One of the cool features of this board is the 66/64 pci slots - those could allow for a pretty pumped storage subsystem.

The promise TX2 cards run at 66mhz and take advantage of this bus. I'm currently seeing a very noticeable jump (from 33mhz performance) using 66mhz slots on my A7M266-D.

The first IDE raid setup I tried was a fast-track 66 and 2 20gb 34gxp's. That also failed...

Kampf, I have a Promise TX4 (66mhz PCI) that is not in use in any of my systems right now. I would be willing to let you use it in testing if you are interested. LMK

The usual Sandra/HDTach/Clibench drive benchmarks. Just raw throughput. I'm curious how much speed it squeezes out of UDMA/33.
